ADELA Noble and Serene German

Adea is a character that was inspired by one of my very dearest friends, Adiel. I originally thought of using the name Adela which means "noble and serene" - Adiel is both these things as well as a wonderful person in general. She is a beautiful woman inside and out and I used some of the things that I love the most about her to create the character of Adea. When I created the characters for "Mistakes and Misunderstandings" I did a lot of research on ancient goddesses. After some time, I decided to use some of those goddesses names for my priestesses. When it came to Adea, I couldn't decide on a name that I really liked, then an idea occured to me... In Greek, Dea means goddess - I wanted something that started with an "A", so that's what I did. I really liked this because the "A" gave it a softer sound.


*ALEXANDER

Meanings:

Biblical - one who assists men.

Greek - Defender of men.

Others - protector/defender of men/mankind. Leader.

When I was looking for a middle name for Keith, I wanted to do two things - first, I wanted a name that really reflected the way I see Keith, which is a truly sacraficing soul and as someone who would give his very life for the better good, so to speak. The second thing I wanted to do was give him a little history and connect him to his father, which is why I also gave Keith's father this middle name (Jerod Alexander Drummond).


ALFOR

I've searched high and low and cannot find this name anywhere (if anyone does, please email me and let me know where!). What I did find was the following which I think may have played a part in naming Arus's fallen king.

When I was working on a character for Lance's mother, I really wanted a simple name. Something that was understated and elegant at the same time. I chose the name Nora Ann... I really don't know why, I just really liked the way it sounded.

Meanings:

Anglo-Saxon - Graceful.

English - Merciful

Irish - Priceless.

I found this in the phone book and liked the way it sounded - especially with Nora Ann.


**BRONWEN

I wanted a last name for Lynley that sounded "pure" - I see Lynley as bit of a misunderstood character. A lot of K&Aers didn't like her role in "For Better of For Worse" but I see her as someone who came into the middle of a situation, unaware, and simply acted. She's a character that I really love and think is a great character overall.

Meaning:

Welsh - Dark and pure. White breast, white breasted.


CORAN

I couldn't find Coran per se, but I did find something close, and some other names that I thought may have been used to inspire this name. I've often wondered if it's a reference to the Quran, the Muslim Holy Book, since Voltron had many religious references.

*DRUMMOND

When I was looking for a last name for Keith, I wanted to find something strong, and I wanted to give him a heritage that was different from what I'd read in other fanfic writer's works. It didn't take me long to decide that I wanted to give him a Scottish background - I myself am part Scottish and have always had a fascination with Scotland and the culture there... I think it's all the castles and mysticism (ie the Druids and the Celtcs). I really liked the idea that Keith had come from a long and established lineage. I started researching Scottish clans and came across clan Drummond. They served the Stewart family for hundreds of years. Then when I saw that the beautiful and historic castle of Dunnottar was owned by the Drummond clan - as well as once by clan Keith - it all fit together and I knew this was the name I simply had to give to our Commander of the Voltron Force.

Meaning:

Zealous, firey, passionate.


**ENYO

When I started working this charcter out in my head, I wanted a name that was somewhat unisez, but at the same time had a definite female history. I searched for a long time trying to find just the right name when I came across this one.

Meaning:

Greek - Goddess of war. In mythology she was a blood-thirsty Greek war goddess and a companion of Ares.


*EVERETT

When looking for a last name for Hunk, I had decided that I wanted something that meant brave - I think this one fit even more perfectly than I could have hoped for...

Meaning:

Hardy, brave, strong as a boar.


**FAYLINN

When I was working on Lance's name, I seriously considered using Lancelot, and Genievive for his sister's, but this has really been used by quite a few people and I really wanted to do something different. At the same time, I wanted something that was a little on the mythical side. It took me a long time to come up with this name and I was pretty uncertain with it - I still wish I could have come up with something that I liked more, but I'm satisfied...

*FOLLINS

When I was working on Pidge's last name, I wanted to use something different - at the same time I really like using names that are somewhat simple. Pidge is the one of the members of the Voltron Force that's originally from another planet (Balto), so I thought I don't want something *too* traditional. I was going to use the last name "Collins" but decided to change it a little so that it had a different sound.


**GENIVA (GENI)

Originally, I was going to name Geni Gwendolyn or Gweniviere - mostly because of Lance (and the idea that Lance comes from Lancelot). After considering this, I decided that so many other people have used Lancelot with the idea that Lance is a shortened version (nickname) that I didn't want to do the same. Then I thought about naming Geni Geniva (the country) - I liked that idea (it was different and yet not an unusual feeling name) - and Geni would be a likely nickname - By the way, I pronounce Geni like Jeannie (as in "I dream of Jeannie").


HAGGAR

Meanings:

Biblical - A stranger, one that fears.

Hebrew - Forsaken. Flight. Famous bearer: the Old Testament maidservant of Sarah, wife of Abraham.


*HAMILTON (HUNK)

I liked the idea of Hunk having a name that didn't exactly suit him - yet not a ninny-sounding name. I chose Hamilton because of its meaning (and because it somehow works).

From the mountain town.


*HANANI

I have always thought that "Nanny" simply couldn't be Nanny's name - although I'm sure it could be... Anyway, I've always thought that Nanny is in reference to her being Allura's governess. I wanted something different yet pretty.

My grace, my mercy.

Greek - Goddess of hearth and home.

When I was trying to come up with a middle name fo Allura, I wanted something that meant "love" or something that referred to love.

French - I Love.

English - Variant of Garrett 'rules by the spear.'.

Meanings:

Irish - From the battlefield.

Scottish - Wood. From the battleground. A surname and place name.

English - Diminutive of Lancelot: Servant. God-like.

French - Land (from Old German) The short form of the name Lancelot (which incidentally was derived originally from the name Lance!) Therefore, this name is the short form of its own diminutive.

I like the reference to "crowned" - I see Sven as a royal - maybe not born into royalty, but a prince among men, no less.

Lynley is a character that I created based on one of my very best friends in the world... Lynne. She is really a beautiful person and I wanted to honor her with Lynley.

I wanted to give Coran a last name that referred to his service to the Arussian Royal family. I couldn't find anything that I really liked but then I found the name Redina. I changed it around a little to give it a more masculine sound and to make it look more like a last name.

I wanted a common name for Hunk's middle name.

I couldn't find Romelle, but I found something close.

Meaning:

Latin - Goddess of Rome.

I really liked this thought - so many fanfic writers call Romelle "Roma" (myself included) that I found this interesting.

Sophie is a character that I originally created out of necessity - most characters just come to me... They stop by one afternoon and let me know that they would like to be written into whatever storyline I happen to be working on, Sophie was different, but I came to really like her and decided to give her a bigger role in my series.
